365 WEST in CounterForm Exhibit SLC

I am very excited that I just received notice that my 365 West piece has been selected to the 2012 Counterform exhibit in the J Willard Marriott Library at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and will be on display until mid October (see below).
365 West is a Mixed media art box and installation completed Fall 2011.

Using: found basket, paper, book board, ribbon, water color, crayon, pen & ink, and linen thread.
Approx value/sale price: $5,000
Outside: Lidded basket and label.
Inside: Handmade, lidded, removable box (ribbon handles) containing 12, removable concertina ‘Sky Journals’.

Each Journal represents one month of post cards, sewn together, recording the daily skies, to the west, at 3pm (wherever I was in the world) over a period of 1 year (July 1st 2010 through June 30th 2011). And sits on top of a tab which will enable you to remove the journal.
It can be displayed in two ways:

1. As a wall installation (top photo) all twelve journals hung together on the wall.

2. Or kept within the box on on the Fold-away Lectern in basket lid, one journal displayed at a time and each page turned as a daily affirmation.

If you would like to go, here are the details: The exhibition will be on display in the Level 1 Gallery of the J. Willard Marriott Library, The University of Utah from August 31 through October 14. Gallery Hours are M, T, W, TH: 7a-2a; F: 1a-8p; S: 9a-8p, Su: Noon-2a. Hours differ during University breaks and holidays.

Open Sky: seeking luminescence

This is my first use of my iPad drawings in an art piece. I have printed them on Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper, on an Epson 2200 printer (many thanks to Teresa for the printer and the help!).
The piece, 'Open Sky: seeking luminescence', is a mixed media book art, using a found split rock, the iPad prints and found print of a happy brain...
Much homage is due to Sue Cotter, local artist and friend, as I first saw her work with split rocks as book covers and she is a great inspiration.

Behind the sun screen

The morning sky was begging to be noticed, as I lay awake at 6 am this morning, I knew there was a beautiful sunrise awaiting behind the temporary sun-screens in the bedroom. And boy was nature as generous as ever.

A busy week is looming so will be posting when I can. But the experimental iPad 'joiner' drawings are coming along and the prints are amazing,

Anti-Crepuscular Rays and Mammas

In Virgin last weekend we had phenomenal skies. These glorious sights were captured on camera by Dennis Timmerman.

Anti-crepuscular rays in the east, while the sunsets in the West ... According to the Cloud Collector's Handbook "Few people ever notice anti-crepuscular rays - except vampire cloud spotters, eager for the arrival of night". As this phenomena happens directly opposite the sun when it is low in the sky, and everyone one is usually watching the sunset.

In the same sky but in the south, the storm was producing some strange shaped mammas:

Storm clouds a building

This sky was happening tonight, frantically drawing it as it changes every moment and our guests are frantically cooking and the kids frantically playing with the dogs, life is sweet.

Also realised that I have few drawings coming in from the right side... I guess that is the way my brain works!
